Helping Families Feed Themselves With Dignity
We’ve learned that you can teach someone about nutrition all day long, but if they can’t afford or access nutritious food, that knowledge doesn’t help much. That’s why we work with communities to strengthen their ability to feed themselves.
In rural areas, we support families in growing kitchen gardens with vegetables that pack nutritional punch. In urban neighborhoods, we connect people with income-generating opportunities so they can purchase the diverse foods their families need. It’s about giving people options and helping them build sustainable livelihoods.
What we do:
- Help families start small-scale farming and kitchen gardens using drought-resistant, nutritious crops
- Connect farmers with markets so they can earn fair prices for their produce
- Support women’s cooperatives and small businesses that improve household income
- Teach food preservation and storage techniques so families can eat well even during lean seasons
- Link communities with microfinance and livelihood training opportunities
When Hassan’s family lost their livestock to drought, they thought they had lost everything. Through our livelihood program, Hassan learned poultry keeping, and his wife Asha started a small vegetable business. Now they not only feed their own children better—they’re helping feed their neighbors too.
